چکیده

This paper describes the conceptual structure of the Daedalus battlefield awareness system. The motivation for Daedalus arises from the problem of providing timely situation awareness for air and ground combat operations in order to improve force effectiveness and reduce fratricide. Daedalus is being designed to fuse the flood of information from sensor platforms currently being developed into a single, consistent 3D model of the dynamic battlefield. Real-time rendering of terrain views overlaid with reconnaisance information and military symbology provides battlefield commanders with a powerful new tool for the planning of operations, an extremely effective interface for briefing the plan to those who will implement it, and a system for monitoring battlefield operations which incorporates up-todate information.

Enabling Battlefield Visualization: an Agent-based Information Management Approach Topic: Human Factors Engineering

A key task of a commander is that of Battlefield Visualization – understanding the situation in order to make decisions to achieve operational goals. Central to this process is managing the information needed to make those decisions. As the battlefield becomes more complex, and the stresses on commanders more apparent, the need for automated tools to reduce the burden only increases. In this pa...

Spatio-temporal Visualization of Battlefield Entities and Events

In this work, we address visualization of spatio-temporal data for military application. Four different visualization prototypes have been developed to track the movement of military entities across a land surface over time; three more have been developed to track the occurrences of numerous war events. We have implemented the prototypes in a software system with a novel clock face GUI. Usabili...

DAEDALUS - A Peer-to-Peer Shared Memory System for Ubiquitous Computing

Data sharing in a large scale and for high volatility tolerance requires peer-to-peer solutions where traditional multiprocessor shared memory systems are not applicable. Efficiency of those P2P shared memory systems depends, in particular, on scale, dynamics, and concurrent write accesses. We have developed a P2P shared memory solution, DAEDALUS, based on SUN’s JXTA framework, and integrated a...

Theory and Evaluation of Battlefield Visualization in Context Topic 1: C2 Concepts, Theory, and Policy Theory and Evaluation of Battlefield Visualization in Context

This paper describes an on-going effort to develop operational visualization concepts and their technical implementations to support sensemaking skills based on the Army’s Field Manual (FM) 3-0 doctrinal information on “Visualization, Detection, and Decide” requirements. A theory of visualization is presented from the stance that visualization is embedded and situated in human endeavors, and it...
